The project is the shore crossing section of the South Stream Gas Pipeline Project on the Russian side. The gas pipeline links Russia to Turkey, creating a reliable source of energy for Turkey, south and south-east Europe. The shore crossing part of the project consists of 2 in number ID 2,000 mm tunnels with lengths of 1,470 m each, starting from a shaft on-shore and ending at an off-shore Exit Pit at 30m water depth.
The precast concrete jacking pipes were specifically designed for this project to withstand the high overburden of up to 163m and a water pressure of up to 5 bar.
The pipes were produced by Züblin Precast Industries Malaysia.
